Hunderbar Dachshunds
About Us

My name is Mary Freibert and I got my first purebred dog, a Golden Retriever from Top Brass Kennels in Illinois in 1975. During my teenage years I worked for Jackie Mertens where I learned a lot about dog husbandry and some dog training. After high school I attended Vet Tech School in Nebraska. After graduation I went back to Illinois and concentrated on Obedience training. Eventually I got bitten by the show bug and got my first show Golden Retiriever. I was hooked.

My second show dog was an Affenpinscher, CH. Troubador's The Grand Poobah "Fred" who I owner-handled to #2 in the country (the number one being Peter Green). In 1990 I met Carlos Puig who introduced me to Longhaired Dachshunds, shortly afterwards I started working for him as an assistant at shows on the weekends. Carlos gave me my first Dachshund, CH. Hundeleben Phender Bender SL SE "Pudgy". In 1999 I relocated to Oregon here I started Field Trialing and Earthdogging with Pudgy. After all these years in dogs I finally got the urge to become a breeder. I aquired my first bitch from Janet Wayock, DC. Timbars Mona Lisa SL "Mona". My second bitch came from Carlos and Ryan Horvath, DC. Hundeleben Homars Xcavatrix SL ME "Trixie". These two girls became my foundation bitches and represent some of my ideal bloodlines to base my breeding program.

I only breed occasionally and there has been three Hunderbar litters since 2003. Each litter has produced beautiful Dachshunds who additionally can perform in the Field. From these three litters there have been 9 Bench Championships, 5 Field Championships and 4 Dual Chamipionships.
